Anne Mittal is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she was regularly exposed to classical music as a young child both through attending concerts at Heinz Hall with her family and over the radio on 89.3 FM in the kitchen in her childhood home. She started playing the cello at age 8 through a school music program. Over the next few years, Anne realized how much joy the cello brought to her life, and joined as many student orchestra groups as she could in middle and high school. She participated in school musicals as a member of the orchestra pit, chamber groups, and church services. She went to District, Regional, and All-State Orchestras, and was a member of the Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestra and Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra. Anne attended the University of Pittsburgh for college where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and completed a thesis through the Perez Lab on the restoration of motor control in spinal cord injury patients. She continued her work in the Perez Lab for an additional year after college, and subsequently received a Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. Anne worked at Ruby Memorial Hospital (the flagship hospital of the West Virginia University Healthcare System) for 4.5 years as a physician assistant in the Neurocritical Care Unit. She then moved to Boston with her husband and 3 year old daughter in June of 2021. Anne is excited to embark on a journey into the rich musical community of Boston, and she is honored to be a part of the Brookline Symphony Orchestra.

Anne’s other interests include long-distance running, anything beach-related, occasional yoga classes, finding and growing new plants in her home, and singing pop songs in the car with her daughter.
