Laura Jekel
Cellist Laura Jekel recently moved back to the Boston area with her husband and young daughter. She spent the last 12 years in Cincinnati working at the community development nonprofit Price Hill Will. While there, she founded the free youth orchestra program MYCincinnati, where she taught strings, as well as managed the administration and operations of the program. Through MYCincinnati, she supported Price Hill Will by organizing creative programming and initiatives that combined arts, affordable housing, economic development, and community building.
Laura studied cello performance at Indiana University (‘06) and Carnegie Mellon (‘09). She spent time performing at teaching in Ecuador and around South America. She was a Sistema Fellow (‘11) at New England Conservatory before moving to Cincinnati to found MYCincinnati. While in Cincinnati she continued playing cello with various local groups, including Queen City Opera, Cincinnati Ballet, and the Dayton Philharmonic.
A huge opera fan, Laura is thrilled to be working at Boston Lyric Opera on the Philanthropy Team.
